π The latest issue of our CDG Global Development Brief is out β this time with a deliberately wider lens!
At the centre: CAF, the Development Bank of Latin America, is doubling its digital financing to $12bn (2026-2031) β for AI, cybersecurity and digital infrastructure. The message behind it is just as striking: ‘No single country in Latin America and the Caribbean can single-handedly influence the rules of artificial intelligence. A coordinated region can negotiate from a stronger position.’
And the rest of the world is moving too: South Korea and the Asian Development Bank deepen cooperation on critical minerals and AI. Five Caribbean states launch a $12.5m programme for climate-resilient fisheries. Women entrepreneurs in Tonga still face structural financing gaps, while the Pacific Islands Forum calls for more capital for the Pacific Resilience Facility ahead of COP31. And from Africa: Fitch affirms Rwanda’s rating at ‘B+’ β while showing how quickly even mostly concessional debt hits its limits.
Also in this issue: globally scoped funding calls, including the Common Fund for Commodities, with priority given to least developed countries and small island developing states.
